Worcester, Mass. (October 18) -- Led by a two-goal effort from junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional), the Assumption College women's soccer team came away with a 2-1 home victory over visiting Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Hounds are ranked No. 5 in this week's NSCAA East Region Poll and improve to 5-0 this season at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
The Hounds jumped on top of the Falcons early as Assumption was awarded a penalty kick just 2:47 into the first half. Radomski converted the PK for the 1-0 lead and her ninth goal of the season as she slid the shot inside the left post. Radomski and the Hounds added to the lead at the 13:15 mark as freshman standout Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) found Radomski at the top of the 18 for Radomski's team-leading 10th goal of 2014. The assist was the third of the season for Arnold, who ranks third on the team in points with 21. Bentley's best scoring chance in the first half came in the 40th minute as Elena Ochsenreither's point-blank shot was saved by Assumption senior goalie Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro).
Off the second-half kickoff, the Hounds put together a play that led to an open opportunity for Radomski, who's scoring attempt went just wide right. The Falcons did eventually get on the board with just 5:05 left on the fourth goal of the season by Ana Tantum, but the Hounds held on for the 2-1 home victory.
Assumption held an overall advantage of 20-10 in shots and a commanding 7-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.
Edgin picked up six saves in the victory, while Deirdre Macrorie had six saves in the loss.
With the victory, Assumption improves to 9-3 overall and 8-2 in Northeast-10 play, while Bentley drops to 2-11 overall and remains winless in the league at 0-10.
The nine-win total is the team's highest single-season total since the 2005 season. Assumption has four regular-season games remaining on the schedule.
Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, October 21st as the Hounds travel to American International for a Northeast-10 contest beginning at 7 p.m. at Abdow Field.
