Springfield, Mass. (October 21) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team claimed its second-straight win on Tuesday night at American International College. The Hounds earned the 2-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets on a match-tying goal from junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) and a game-winner off an AIC defender in the second half.
With the win, the Hounds improve to 10-3 on the season, (9-2 NE-10) while AIC drops to 3-9-1 overall (3-7-1 NE-10).
American International was the first to get on the board just over 17 minutes into the match when the Yellow Jackets' Alyssa Werbicki scored off of a free-kick from teammate Romina Bell. Bell launched the ball into the box from 45 yards out to find Werbicki who sent it fast to the right of Assumption keeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro).
Down by one with just less than three minutes to go in the first half, Radomski took a pass from senior defender Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) in front of the goal. Radomski headed the ball high into the net, over Yellow Jacket goalie Sam Tabak. The goal marks Radomski's team-high 11th of the season, her third in two-straight games.
The squads entered the locker rooms tied 1-1 and battled for over 30 scoreless minutes in the second period.
The Hounds notched the game-winner when junior Katie Bealka (East Freetown, Mass. / Apponequet Regional) took a free kick from near midfield. Bealka sent the ball into a crowd of players where Radomski got her head on the ball to send it in the direction of the goal. The ball caught the head of a Yellow Jacket defender, deflecting its path and sending it into the bottom right of the net for the final score of the game.
Assumption held the advantage in shots 15-11 including five shots on goal, compared to six shots on goal for AIC.
Senior Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, R.I. / Toll Gate) and sophomore Tayla Morais (Taunton, Mass. / Taunton) each posted a team-high three shots on the day.
The Greyhounds also held a commanding advantage in corner kicks, earning seven to the Yellow Jackets' two on the night.
Defensively, Edgin posted five saves in 90 minutes between the posts while Tabak notched one in 45 minutes and Samantha Webber closed out the match with two in the final 45 minutes of play for AIC.
Assumption is set to return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Saint Anselm at 3 p.m.
