Women's Soccer Shuts Out Southern Connecticut

Box Score

New Haven, Conn. (October 29) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team shut out the third-ranked team in the NCAA DII East Region, Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday evening on the road by a score of 2-0. With the win, the Greyhounds remain atop the Northeast-10 leaderboard with their 11-2 conference record (12-3 overall).

The Owls (10-5-1, 9-4-1 NE-10) rendered the Greyhounds scoreless in the first half after 45 minutes of play, despite Assumption's 8-3 advantage in shots on the half. Southern Connecticut goalie Erica Ridella notched four saves in the half to keep the score tied.

In the second half, the Hounds came out firing, tallying 14 shots to just one for the Owls. It wasn't until the 62nd minute of play, however, that Assumption notched its first goal of the game. Senior Kelsey Imondi (Warwick, R.I. / Toll Gate) netted a loose ball for the Greyhound lead, tallying her fourth goal of the season.

Imondi's goal gained momentum for the Hound offense, setting the tone for the insurance goal just over two minutes later. Sophomore Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham) battled for ball control and blasted a shot high into the net, over Ridella, to collect her third goal of the season and seal the win.

It was Imondi who led the Hound offense on the evening, posting seven shots, five on goal, out of Assumption's total of 22 shots, 12 on goal. Junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) was also a powerful force on the offense, tallying six shots, two on goal. Hill was the only player to go two-for-two with both of her shots landing on goal.

The Owls, who are currently third in the Northeast-10 standings, managed just four shots overall, three on goal, while Ridella tallied 10 saves to Hound keeper Rachel Edgin's (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) three after a strong defensive showing by Assumption. The shutout marks Edgin's sixth of the season.

The Greyhounds, who are currently ranked eighth in the NCAA Division II East Region, will face Queens College tomorrow evening on the road at 3 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
