Flushing, N.Y. (October 30) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw in a non-conference match-up at Queens College on Thursday afternoon, marking the Hounds' first tie of the season.
The Hounds' record moves to 12-3-1 on the season while Queens is now 4-8-4 overall.
The first shot did not come until nearly 15 minutes into the first period when Queens' Kristina Gabrielsen fired toward the Assumption goal. Senior Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) collected the shot for her first of two saves on the day. Queens threatened again just under eight minutes later when Itzel Guzman bounced one off the post in a narrow miss.
The Knights ultimately outshot the Greyhounds 6-3 in the first half.
In the second half, the Hounds notched five shots to Queens' three, including three from freshman Nikki Sloan (Stow, Mass. / Hudson).
With the score still tied at the end of 90 minutes, the two squads entered the first of two sudden victory overtime periods.
Just 14 seconds into overtime, junior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional), who has five game-winning goals this season (11th in the nation), attempted to add another. Radomski lined up but booted the shot high over the net.
The teams advanced to double overtime after the Hound offense dominated the field in the first, holding the edge in shots 5-2. In double overtime, Queens managed to get off three shots while the Hounds totaled zero on the period.
Overall, the teams demonstrated equal play on both sides of the ball. Queens notched 14 shots to Assumption's 13 while both teams tallied three corner kicks.
The Greyhound offense was led by Sloan who notched five shots, three on goal, on the evening. Sloan was followed by Radomski who posted four shots, one on goal. Freshman Amanda Arnold (Dayton, Maine / Thornton Academy) shot three, one on goal, while senior Liz Manganella (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) was the fourth Hound to release a shot.
Assumption hosts Merrimack on Saturday, Nov. 1, for its final contest of the season. The Greyhounds will honor the graduating Class of 2014 prior to Saturday's match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
