Rindge, N.H. (September 13) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team (2-1, 1-0 NE-10) opened Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday with a 1-0 shutout over Franklin Pierce (2-1, 0-1 NE-10) for its second-straight win. The win also marks the second time in Assumption history that the Hounds have topped Franklin Pierce.

The two squads kicked off the contest evenly matched. Neither team was able to find the back of the net throughout the entirety of the first period.

Entering the second half 0-0, the Hounds were able to capitalize on a corner kick just over 51 minutes into regulation by junior Caroline Arnold (Foxboro, Mass. / Bishop Feehan). It was freshman Nikki Sloan (Stow, Mass. / Hudson), assisted by senior Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover), who ultimately netted Assumption's winning goal on a well-placed header opposite FPU keeper Casey Cook. The goal marked the first of Sloan's career.

In the first half, the Hounds posted seven shots compared to just three for the Ravens. At the games conclusion, Franklin Pierce had edged Assumpion 13-10 in shots.  

The Hounds did however, come out with the edge in corner kicks 6-4.

Assumption keeper Rachel Edgin (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Whitesboro) tallied five saves on the day while Cook posted four.

The Hounds are set to return to action Wednesday, Sept. 17 against New Haven in their home opener at the Multi-Sport Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
