THE BASICS:

-Score: Assumption 3, Suffolk 4, OT

-Records: Assumption (0-1); Suffolk (1-0)

-The Lead: Senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) scored with just one minute left in regulation to send the Hounds into overtime at Suffolk on Saturday. Bete notched a hat trick en route to the eventual 4-3 overtime loss in Assumption's season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Suffolk got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes on power play goals by Mike Cherpak and Justin Holliday.

-In the second period, Assumption's defense held strong, preventing the Rams from adding to their lead. Bete notched his first goal of the game on a power play in the 14th minute, assisted by sophomore Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn. / Avon Old Farms) and junior Ryan Gomez (Wayne, N.J. / Wayne Valley) to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.

-The Hounds tied it up in the beginning of the third when Bete scored just 3:40 into the frame. He was assisted by Gomez and junior Brian Farrell (Island Park, N.Y. / West Boca).

-Suffolk responded with less than eight minutes left in regulation with the go-ahead goal from Stanton Turner, 3-2.

-With just one minute left in regulation, Bete took advantage of another Suffolk penalty and completed his hat trick to tie it up 3-3 and send the Hounds into overtime.

-Just 37 seconds into overtime however, Suffolk buried the gamewinner for the 4-3 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Bete scored three goals to lead the Greyhound offense while Gomez assisted on all three.

-Cowles registered two assists and Farrell notched one.

-Gomez, Bete and Farrell each emerged +1 on the night.

-Senior Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn. / Glastonbury) collected 26 saves in net for the Hounds in his 60:37 between the pipes.

-Assumption outshot Suffolk 38-30 overall including 14-9 in the second period and 13-8 in the third.

-The Hound successfully converted two-of-10 power-play opportunities while Suffolk was successful on two-of-six.

UP NEXT:

-Assumption opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Thursday, Nov. 5 as the squad travels to Stonehill for a 7 p.m. contest. Following the matchup, the Hounds will host Franklin Pierce on Friday, Nov. 13, at 5:35 p.m. in the 2015 home opener.
