- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, the No. 21 Assumption College football team won its eighth straight with a 28-14 Homecoming victory over visiting Stonehill College to clinch the outright Northeast-10 Conference regular-season championship. The win is the ninth of the season for the Hounds, which breaks the program's all-time single-season record for victories.
Assumption will host the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Championship Game on Saturday, November 14th as the Hounds host the University of New Haven at 1 p.m.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The game was played in front of a crowd of 2,717 fans, which shattered the Multi-Sport Stadium attendance record from two years ago by over 200 fans.
- Senior James Ward (New Haven, Conn./Williston Northampton) led the ground game with a 64-yard effort, while freshman Deonte Harris (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) had a team-high seven receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
- Sophomore receiver Ashton Grant (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) led the Hounds with 83 receiving yards on six catches, including a seven-yard touchdown pass and a game-long reception of 47 yards.
- Quarterback Brendan Tobey (Lynn, Mass./Malden Catholic) completed 18-of-34 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns, along with 21 yards on the ground.
- Defensively, junior captain Jarrod Casey (Milford, Mass./Bridgton Academy) led the team with 10 total tackles, including seven solo stops and two tackles for loss. With his 10-tackle effort, Casey has surpassed the 100-tackle mark for the season as he now has 102. Junior Nick Valenti (Troy, N.Y./Troy) nearly posted a double-digit tackle game as well, finishing with nine stops that included a game-high eight assisted tackles.
- For Stonehill, Gordon McLeod had a game-high 10 receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown, including a 42-yard catch. Sophomore quarterback Matt Foltz completed 18-of-39 passes for 199 yards and one touchdown while being sacked twice.
- Assumption is receiving votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II National Poll for the third straight week and jumped two spots to No. 21 in the D2Football.com National Poll.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption took a 17-0 lead into the halftime break as the Hounds opened scoring midway thru the first period on a seven-yard touchdown catch in the back of the end zone by Grant.
- Two big special teams plays earned the Hounds the next 10 points as a botched punt led to a 21-yard field goal from sophomore Cole Tracy (Camarillo, Calif./Newbury Park), followed by a blocked punt returned for a touchdown by junior Darnell Butler (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) with 6:59 left in the second.
- Stonehill scored a pair of touchdowns that were sandwiched around a 38-yard field goal from Tracy to pull within one possession at 20-14 with 7:36 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- Harris put the game out reach with under five minutes left in the fourth as he pulled in a 32-yard touchdown pass from Tobey and converted a two-point conversion on a rush to account for the 28-14 final.

- Assumption is back in action on Saturday, November 14th as the Hounds host the University of New Haven for a 1 p.m. Senior Day start at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The Hounds defeated the Chargers by a 23-17 final earlier this season in Worcester.
