Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (March 14) -- On Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 home final to No. 7 ranked Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 1:17 into the game as senior Joe Corapi scored an unassisted goal. Le Moyne added goals from sophomore Brian Rogers and senior Chris Breiner to close out the first period at a 3-0 margin as the Dolphins outshot the Hounds 9-7 in the quarter.

After a Corapi man-up score to open the second, the Hounds jumped on the board on goals from seniors Peter Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and John Greco (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) to close to within a 4-2 margin. The Hounds had a plethora of chances in the quarter, holding a 10-7 edge in shots for the period, but it was the Dolphins that took a 7-3 lead into the halftime break. Junior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) also scored in the second as six different players eventually scored for the Hounds in the game.

Le Moyne came out noticeably quick in the third quarter, pouring in six goals over the first 4:44 of the period to extend the lead up to 13-3 with 10:16 left. Senior Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) stopped the Le Moyne run, followed by an unassisted goal from junior Nike Guarino (Avon, Conn./Avon) just 10 seconds later for the 13-5 margin. Guarino won the faceoff, collected the ground ball and raced towards the net as he scored his first career goal.

The Dolphins ended the third on a 4-0 run for the 17-5 advantage thru three quarters, en route to the eventual 20-6 final score.

Eight different Hounds registered one point each in the game, while Rogers paced the Dolphins with a five-goal, two-assist outing as seven different Le Moyne players found the net. Le Moyne held a 28-22 advantage in ground balls, while the Hounds forced 14 Dolphin turnovers and were successful on 16-of-17 clear attempts.

Guarino was successful at winning 15-of-29 faceoffs in the game that included 6-for-8 in the second quarter. Le Moyne ended the game converting 5-of-7 man-up chances as well, including four in the second half.

Senior goalie Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) made nine saves in the loss, while senior Alex Krawec had 13 stops in three quarters to pick up the victory for the Dolphins.

Assumption drops to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Le Moyne improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
