Worcester, Mass. (March 17) -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-5 final to No. 10 ranked Molloy College in non-conference action at the Multi-Sport Stadium. The Lions marked the second straight top-10 opponent for the Hounds and fourth overall for the season.

Molloy got on the board first on a goal from Tom Graef that was nearly stopped by Assumption goalie Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) before trickling into the net. The Lions added a goal from senior Joe Leonard just moments later to double the lead before the Hounds got on the board on the seventh goal of the season from senior Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) with 5:17 remaining. The game headed into the second quarter at that same score after a shot from Molloy's Kevin Teresky went off the post in the final seconds of the period.

The Hounds tied the game just 2:38 into the second as senior Tim Casey (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) collected a rebound and fired home the goal for the 2-2 score. Molloy ended the first half on a 5-0 scoring run, beginning with a goal off a rebound by TJ Kilmetis for the 3-2 lead at the 11:35 mark. Tom Turner scored on a man-up opportunity off a pass from Peter Clark, followed by a Clark goal assisted by Turner for the 5-2 edge with 4:18 on the clock.

Jon Camposa found Leonard on a quick pass from behind the net for the 6-2 lead, followed by a goal from Connor Slane with just 13 seconds remaining for the 7-2 halftime margin. Slane had his initial shot saved by Contento before collecting the rebound to close out the first-half scoring.

Each team found the back of the net in the third, including Slane with 5:58 left in the period as he skipped a shot in along the turf from 20  yards out for the 8-2 advantage. Senior Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) got on the board at the 1:40 mark off an assist from Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville), marking his eighth goal of the season. The Hounds eventually went on a 3-0 scoring run, beginning with the goal from Smith and continuing with two goals by senior Peter Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) to start the fourth. The first Gersbeck score came on a quick shot from 10 yards out with 14:22 left, followed by a shot from the left side that slid inside the right post for the 8-5 margin with 10:52 on the clock.

Tom Engelhardt capped off the scoring for the Lions with just over nine minutes left, taking the ball from behind the net and curling around to fire the shot and account for the 9-5 final margin.

Contento made a career-high 18 saves in the loss, while Brendan Schade had a five-save outing for the win.

Gersbeck picked up a team-high two goals, while Casey had one goal and one assist for the Hounds. Slane posted two goals to lead the Lions, who had eight different players find the back of the net.

For the game, Molloy outshot the Hounds by a 52-17 margin and held a 35-19 advantage in ground balls, while Assumption was successful on 13-of-17 clear attempts and forced 11 Molloy turnovers.

Assumption drops to 2-4 overall with the loss, while Molloy improves to 4-1 on the season.

Assumption is back in action at Noon on Saturday, March 21st as the Hounds host Franklin Pierce for a Northeast-10 Conference Game.
