Manchester, N.H. (March 24) -- On Tuesday night at Larkin Field, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team picked up its first Northeast-10 victory of the season with a 10-5 road win at Southern New Hampshire University.
The Hounds got on the board first as senior Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) shot low for the 1-0 lead just 2:13 into the game. Assumption added to the lead just 3:29 later on an unassisted goal from senior Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) for the 2-0 edge. Martina increased the advantage to 3-0 late in the opening period off a pass from senior Tim Casey (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury), which was the margin heading to the second.
The lone goal in the second quarter came from SNHU's Keifer Heckman, off an assist from Cameron Joyce, to send the game into the break at 3-1. The Penmen outshot the Hounds by a 16-12 margin in the first half, while the visitors were 9-for-12 in clear attempts and forced eight SNHU turnovers.

The rest of the quarter was all Hounds though as Smith, senior Peter Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and freshman Conor Darby (Haverhill, Mass./Proctor Academy) sent the game into the third at 6-2 in favor of Assumption. Gersbeck's goal came on a rush from the right side as he fired into the upper left corner for his fifth goal of the season.
Darby added to the lead 3:04 into the final quarter with his second goal of the game before Daniel Trainor answered with 10:54 remaining as he skipped a shot off the turf and in for the 7-3 lead. Darby and the Hounds answered just with a pair of goals over the next 51 seconds, giving Darby his second career hat trick in the process as Assumption took the commanding 9-3 advantage.
Joyce put an end to a 6-1 Hounds scoring run with 9:24 left in the game, taking the assist from Eric Johnson for a 9-4 margin. Martina and Heckman traded goals over the remainder of the game though as each player completed the hat trick as the game ended in a 10-5 final.
