Worcester, Mass. (April 11) -- On Senior Day, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team won for the fourth time in the last five games with a hard-fought 13-11 home win over Pace University on Saturday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.

The Hounds jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the game behind goals from junior Cameron Murphy (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian) and senior Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) before a man-up goal made it 2-1 with 5:59 left in the opening quarter. Assumption capped off a solid first period with a goal from senior Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) as he took the pass from Smith and fired into the upper left corner for the 4-2 edge.

With the scoring sitting at just 4-3 seconds into the next period, the Hounds embarked on a five-goal scoring run that included a Smith man-up goal and was capped by an unassisted tally from senior Paul Curran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River). Assumption went on to lead by a 10-4 margin at the half, a lead that eventually built to as many as seven on two occasions.

The first seven-goal edge came on the first goal of the second half from Martina, with the second making it 13-6 at the midway point of the fourth following a tally by senior John Greco (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville). The Setters roared to life though with a five-goal scoring run, including three goals in a span of just 1:37, to pull within 13-11 within 1:33 remaining. The defense clamped down though as the momentum had swung to Pace as the Hounds came away with the two-goal win on Senior Day.

Senior goalie Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) made 13 saves to pick up his sixth win of the season, while Michael Bonitatibus had eight stops in the loss.

Smith paced the Hounds with five points on four goals and one assist, while Martina posted a hat trick as well. Matthew Cossidente and Wyatt Barfoot each posted hat tricks, with Cossidente adding a pair of assists as well.

Pace outshot the Hounds by a 35-33 margin in the game, while the teams were even on faceoffs at 14 each. Assumption also converted on 18-of-22 clear attempts and both teams posted two man-up goals.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, April 15th as the Hounds host American International for a 7 p.m. start in the team's final regular-season home game.
