-The Lead: The Assumption College women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon in front of a home crowd as it fell, 3-2, to Southern Connecticut in the Hounds' home and Northeast-10 opener. Senior Paige Radomski (Kingston, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) scored one goal and assisted the other to help lead the Hounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Assumption gained an early 1-0 advantage just 4:56 into the game when Radomski lined up and fired from 30 yards off a pass from junior Jaclyn Tomasello (Halifax, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional). The kick soared above Owl keeper Erica Ridella and found the top left of the net for the lead.
-Southern Connecticut tallied the equalizer in the 27th minute when Victoria Buonanni blasted a similar shot from 20 yards, crossing into the top left corner of the net.
-The Owls took a commanding 2-1 lead after posting two goals in six minutes in the second half. The first came off of a free-position kick from 25 yards at 70:21. The second came when Caroline Staudle drew Assumption goalie, Emily Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven), from the net and chipped the ball over her head.
-With time on the clock dwindling, the Hounds made repeated attempts to close the gap but were unsuccessful until Radomski found sophomore Amanda Arnold (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) in the box with just 11 seconds left in the game. Radomski sent a corner kick straight to Arnold who headed the ball into the net, reducing the deficit to one with just over 10 seconds on the clock.
