-The Lead: The Assumption College volleyball team earned a pair of victories this afternoon at Georgian Court University, defeating Felician University in the opener 3-0, before rallying to beat Georgian Court 3-1 to close out the tri-match.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH ONE vs. Felician
- In the first set, Assumption tallied 13 kills on its way to a 25-14 win. The Hounds recorded a hitting percentage of .273, while holding Felician to single digit kills with nine and a hitting percentage of .047.
- Set two was all Assumption as the Hounds dominated the Golden Falcons 25-7. Assumption recorded 11 kills on a .588 hitting percentage, while holding Felician to five kills and a -.136 hitting percentage.
- Assumption finished the sweep in the third set, winning 25-10 behind 15 kills on a .542 hitting percentage. Felician managed to produce six kills while hitting -0.33.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Olivia Burke (Salem, N.H. / Salem) led Assumption on offense, registering a match-high 12 kills, while sophomore Kellie Smith (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) chipped in with nine kills and eight digs.
- Junior Kiki Romanik (San Rafael, Calif. / Sir Francis Drake) led all players with 32 assists, while also recording eight digs, three service aces and three kills.
- On the defensive side, junior Maria Chrisom (Dover, N.H. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) tallied 18 digs, with freshman Zara Velez (Pine Bush, N.Y. / Pine Bush) helping the effort with six.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH TWO vs. Georgian Court
- Georgian Court rode its defense to an opening set win, holding Assumption to just seven kills on a .000 hitting percentage. The Lions managed 14 kills in the opening set with a .393 hitting percentage.
- Assumption tied the match up at one set a piece despite Georgian Court racking up 16 kills to the Hounds 14.
- In set three, The Hounds seized the momentum with a 25-15 win. Georgian Court hit a four set low seven kills, while Assumption recorded a high of 16.
- Assumption was once again out hit in the fourth set, but limited its mistakes to win the set and the match. The Hounds tallied 10 kills on a .163 hitting percentage, while Georgian Court hit a match high 17 kills.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Julia Goyette (Randolph, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) and Smith each registered double digit kills, as Goyette led the team with 12, while Smith was close behind with 11. Smith also led the team on the defensive end with 23 kills to complete her double-double.
- Romanik once again facilitated the offense with 42 assists to go with five digs and two kills.
- Chrisom and Velez were also standouts on the defensive side, as they both recorded double digit digs with 15 and 13, respectively.
