Women's Soccer Takes Down New Haven 1-0 in OT

Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 1, New Haven 0  OT

- Record: Assumption (6-5-1, 4-3-1 NE-10), New Haven (5-5-1, 3-4-1 NE-10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

The Lead: Assumption more than doubled New Haven's shot total but the score went to overtime knotted 0-0 before Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) headed home the game winner in the 94th minute for the overtime victory on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption possessed the ball in its offensive third for much of the first half and put 14 shots on net, forcing New Haven goalie Deandra Nash into seven first-half saves. The Chargers meanwhile, were able to get six shots off, but only had two on net.

- Just 20 seconds into the second half, Villemaire fired a shot from the middle of the 18, forcing a diving save from Nash to keep it scoreless.

- In the 52nd minute Assumption had another chance on a scrum in front of the net, as Jaclyn Tomasello (Halifax, Mass. / Silver Lake Regional) got off a shot, but it hit off the post and a defender was able to clear it out of the box.

- With just under four minutes remaining, Amanda Arnold (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) gave Assumption arguably the team's best chance in regulation as she touched it over the goalie at the six, but it bounced off the crossbar and back into play.

- Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham) set up the overtime game-winner as she sent a long cross into the box towards Villemaire. Villemaire leapt at the six and with her back to the goal mouth, as well as a defender on her back, she flicked it with the top of her head past Nash.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption held a dominant 31-13 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Villemaire led the team with seven shots in the contest.

- Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) earned the shutout win in net as she stopped five shots in 93:13. Nash took the loss for the Chargers as she made 15 saves while allowing a single goal.

- The victory is the second in overtime for the Hounds this season and brings their record in such games to 2-1-1
