-The Lead: Despite a five-point performance by freshman Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) the Assumption College men's lacrosse team fell to Adelphi by a score of 18-8 on Tuesday afternoon at the Assumption Multi-Sport Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Adelphi quickly jumped on top scoring three goals in the first five minutes of Tuesday's game, two of which were scored by reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Week Gordon Purdie, Jr.
-The Hounds got on the board with 9:21 left in the first quarter when freshman Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham), assisted by senior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville), found the back of the net.
-Adelphi responded with three straight to make it 6-1 before the Hounds scored twice to end the quarter 6-3. Farrell scored at 2:45 followed by Reid who scored with 1:41 left, assisted by Farrell.
-The second quarter proved to be more balanced as the Hounds scored two goals to Adelphi's four to make it 10-5 at halftime.
-In the third quarter, the squads traded goals after Assumption's Patrick Ward (Canton, Mass. / Kents Hill School) scored at 12:50, assisted by Farrell. Adelphi followed less than a minute later and the teams held at 11-6 for over five minutes.
-Farrell scored one more on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Munisteri, before Adelphi's Michael Osmundson scored with 1:22 left to make it 12-7, Panthers.
-Adelphi went on a 6-1 run in the fourth quarter, nearly shutting out the Hounds in the frame before Farrell notched another man-up goal with just 11 seconds left on the clock for the 18-8 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Farrell led the Hound offense with five points on three goals and two assists, followed by Munisteri who notched three assists on the day.
-Adelphi's Salvatore Tuttle posted eight points on six goals and two assists to lead all players on the day.
-Adelphi outshot the Hounds 41-27 overall but won 14 faceoffs compared to 15 for Assumption.
-The Panthers registered 38 ground balls to 29 for Assumption.
-The Hounds were successful on 10-of-12 clear attempts while Adelphi was 14-of-17.
-In goal, freshman Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) tallied 15 saves in 60 minutes between the posts compared to 11 saves for Adelphi's John McGrath in his 60 minutes.
