THE BASICS:

-The Lead: The Assumption College men's lacrosse team improved to 2-1 in the NE-10 with an 11-8 victory over Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at the Assumption Multi-Sport Stadium. The Hounds were led in the win by sophomore Patrick O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y. / St. Dominic) and senior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) who combined for seven points on five goals and two assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Golden Knights took the lead in the first quarter with 9:09 on the clock but the Hounds responded just eight seconds later to tie the score at 1-1 when Munisteri found the back of the net, assisted by Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham).

-Assumption took the lead at 5:47 in the first when O'Brien made it 2-1 and the Hounds traded goals for the remainder of the period to make it 3-2 Assumption at the quarter break.

-Saint Rose went up by one, 4-3, after scoring twice in the beginning of the second quarter, but the Hounds rebounded when Munisteri scored with 6:07 left in the frame. Following another Saint Rose goal at 5:27, Assumption scored two in a row from sophomore Aidan Murphy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y. / Christian Brothers Academy) and Reid to reclaim the lead 6-5.

-The Golden Knights tied the score again at 6-6 before halftime.

-Assumption dominated the third quarter, scoring five straight goals to take a commanding 11-6 lead. O'Brien, Reid and Murphy scored in the quarter, joined by freshman Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) and sophomore Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton). Three Hounds assisted the goal frenzy including Munisteri and senior captains John Rankin (Haverhill, Mass. / Haverhill) and Tom Graham (Medfield, Mass. / Medfield).

-Saint Rose scored twice more in the game, once with 15 seconds left in the third as well as the lone goal for both teams in the fourth with 5:12 left in the game for the 11-8 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-O'Brien notched a hat trick on Saturday, tallying a team-high three goals on just five shots on goal. 

-Munisteri collected a team-high four points on two goals and two assists on the day.

-Reid notched three points on two goals and one assist.

-Saint Rose outshot the Hounds 34-33 and also tallied 14 turnovers to Assumption's 12. 

-The Hounds collected 19 ground balls to just 14 for the Golden Knights.

-Freshman Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) earns his first win of the season, improving to 1-2 overall with six saves and just two goals allowed in his 30 minutes in net. Hamwey entered the game in the second half, taking over for starter John Demott (Syracuse, N.Y. / Corcoran) who registered seven saves in the first half while allowing six Golden Knight goals.

-Saint Rose's Liam Guiton posted 14 saves in net and takes the loss, falling to 0-4 on the season. 

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-Ranking registered an assist on Farrell's goal in the third quarter to mark the first point of his career as a defenseman.

-O'Brien's hat trick marks his second of the season. He also posted three goals against AIC on March 11.

-Reid currently leads the team with 24 points on 15 goals and nine assists this season. He is followed by Farrell with 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists. Munisteri is just behind the pair with 17 points on seven goals and 10 assists. Ten assists is the most on the squad. 

-Hamwey, Munisteri and Reid are also ranked in the top five in the NE-10. Munisteri is fourth with his 10 assists, Reid is fifth with his 24 points and Hamwey is fifth with a 53.8 save percentage.
