THE BASICS:

-The Lead: Despite an even back-and-forth battle throughout the first three quarters, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team surrendered five goals in the fourth quarter en route to a 13-8 loss to the Pace Setters on the road on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Pace took the lead less than three minutes into the first quarter before Assumption's Patrick O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y. / St. Dominic) scored just over a minute later to tie it back up, 1-1.
-The Setters rattled off three more goals, two within 51 seconds to take a 4-1 lead.
-The Hounds opened the second quarter on a firing streak, scoring three goals within the first two minutes to tie the game 4-4.
-Just 30 seconds into the period sophomore Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton) registered an unassisted goal to spark the streak.
-With 13:10 on the clock, senior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville), assisted by freshman Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood), found the back of the net and was followed just seven seconds later by an unassisted goal from senior Nick Guarino (Avon, Conn. / Avon) off the faceoff.
-Pace halted the Greyhound momentum just over a minute later to take a 5-4 lead before scoring again with just 5:28 on the clock for a two-goal advantage.
-Sophomore Patrick Ward (Canton, Mass. / Kents Hill School) scored a minute later to bring the deficit back to one but with 1:14 left before the half, the Setters extended their lead to two once again, 7-5.
-Both teams shut out the other in the third.
-The Hounds ended the 18-minute scoring drought when Munisteri fired on goal to make it 7-6 Setters.
-Once again Pace ended the Hounds' momentum, this time firing five straight goals to take a commanding 12-6 lead with just 1:35 to play.
-Assumption fought back in the final minute scoring two goals, both by Farrell, with 46 seconds and one second left on the clock. Pace scored once in between Farrell's pair for the 13-8 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Munisteri and Farrell led the Hounds on two goals apiece on the day while Farrell added an assist to total three points.
-Guarino picked up nine ground balls and also scored his first goal of the season. The face-off specialist has scored just one other goal in his career, which came last season.
-Senior Cameron Murphy (Walpole, Mass. / Xaverian) posted a team-high two caused turnovers.
-Overall the Hounds were outshot 42-24, totaled 26 turnovers and went 16-for-22 in clear attempts.
-Led by Guarino, the Hounds emerged victorious in 17-of-25 faceoff attempts compared to just 8-of-25 for Pace. The Setters also tallied three faceoff violations compared to just one for the Hounds.
-Neither team was able to capitalize on man-up opportunities. Assumption was 0-for-1 while Pace was 0-for-4.
-Freshman Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) takes the loss and falls to 1-5 on the season. He turned aside 11 shots in his 60 minutes in net.
-Robert Beshlian takes the win and improves to 10-5 on the season. He accumulated seven saves in 58:30 while allowing six goals before being replaced by Conor Brophy for 1:30. Brophy allowed two goals during his time in net.

-The Hounds are set to return to action on Saturday, April 30, for Senior Day at the Assumption Multi-Sport Stadium. Assumption will host the Southern New Hampshire Penmen at 7 p.m.
