THE BASICS:

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

-The Lead: In a back-and-forth battle on Senior Night at the Multi-Sport Stadium, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team earned an impressive 15-10 victory over the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday. The Penmen, who finished the regular season ranked fifth, are headed into the NE-10 Playoffs.

-Prior to the evening's contest, the Hounds honored five seniors including Tom Graham (Medfield, Mass. / Medfield), Cameron Murphy (Walpole, Mass. / Xaverian), Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville), Nick Guarino (Avon, Conn. / Avon), and John Rankin (Haverhill, Mass. / Haverhill). Each senior heavily contributed to the Hounds' victory on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Sophomore Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton) got the Hounds out to a lead in the first quarter just over four minutes into the game before SNHU tied it up just over two minutes later to make it 1-1.

-Freshman Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) put the Hounds back up with his first goal of the game, unassisted, before SNHU scored again with 3:02 left in the first to send the teams into the second quarter tied 2-2. 

-SNHU opened the second quarter taking a 3-2 lead before Matisoff found the back of the net again to even the score on a man-up opportunity, 3-3.

-Southern New Hampshire scored twice more to take a 5-3 advantage but Munisteri scored with 1:42 left in the half to bring the Hounds back within one, 5-4.

-SNHU added one more with 54 seconds on the clock for a 6-4 lead headed into halftime.

-The Hounds rattled off three straight to open the third quarter and claim a 7-6 advantage. The first came from sophomore Patrick O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y. / St. Dominic), assisted by Reid, while Reid notched the other two. 

-SNHU battled back posting another goal 38 seconds after the Hounds' rally to tie it back up 7-7.

-Assumption rallied once again to score three unanswered goals in the third. O'Brien found the back of the net with 10:06 on the clock and freshman Mike Curcio (Southbury, CT. / Pomperaug) scored with 5:10 in the quarter. Just 28 seconds later, freshman Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) scored again for a 10-7 Greyhound lead.

-The Hounds added to the lead when Matisoff found Farrell 2:23 into the fourth quarter, 11-7 Assumption.

-SNHU's Cameron Joyce scored with 10:49 left in regulation to reduce the deficit to three, 11-8 and the Penmen added one more 4:09 later to bring SNHU within two, 11-9.

-With Southern New Hampshire slowly creeping up, the Hounds scored twice more within two minutes to claim a four-goal advantage, 13-9. Reid and Munisteri posted the goals for the Hounds.

-SNHU managed one more goal with 2:25 left on the clock but Assumption fired twice more for the 15-10 final. The final goal came with 1:05 left in regulation and was scored by Graham.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Reid led the Hounds with eight points on four goals and four assists while Munisteri tallied three goals on his senior night.

-Matisoff and Farrell also performed exceptionally well on the day. Matisoff posted four points on two goals and two assists while Farrell notched five on two goals and three assists.

-Guarino went 17-for-26 on face-offs and collected a team-high nine ground balls.

-Sophomore Derric Dell'Olio (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Shrewsbury) registered a team-best three caused turnovers.

-As a team, the Hounds outshot the Penmen 42-38 overall including 10-5 in the fourth quarter. 

-Assumption was successful on 16-of-25 clear attempts while SNHU went 18-for-20.

-The Hounds were able to capitalize on two of six man-up opportunities while SNHU was 1-for-3.

-Freshman Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) earned his second win of the season with the victory posting 18 saves in his 60 minutes in net.

-The Greyhounds hand SNHU's Tyler Walsh his first loss of the season, he drops to 8-1 overall. He tallied nine saves and was replaced by Michael Brawley with four minutes left in the game. Brawley allowed the final two goals.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

-Graham registered his first career goal in front of family and friends on his senior night.

-Reid's eight points mark the second time in his brief career that he has done so.

-Munisteri's hat trick marks his first of the season as he closes his Assumption career.
