- The Lead: In the 2016 season finale, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team picked up a 7-0 shutout of Merrimack College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 action. The shutout is just the fourth overall in program history and first since a 22-0 shutout of Southern Connecticut in 2002.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Hounds took a 3-0 lead in the first half behind back-to-back goals from senior Molly Brown (Manchester, N.H./Manchester West) to get the scoring started. Brown scored 5:49 into the game on a free-position attempt, followed by an unassisted tally just three minutes later. Sophomore Jen McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) closed the first-half scoring on a free-position tally with 17:25 left for the halftime edge.

- Freshman Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Warde) scored just 3:01 into the second for the 4-0 lead, followed by junior Quincy Wilkins (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) taking a pass from sophomore Caitlin Graves (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) for a 5-0 edge. Freshman Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y./Shaker) closed out her freshman season with a man-up goal at the 4:22 mark, followed by a McDonald goal with 1:50 left to close out the shutout.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) made 14 saves in the victory, while Alexa Petzhold and Lauren Trepaney combined for 17 saves in the defeat.

- The Hounds were 3-for-9 on free-position attempts and forced 19 Merrimack turnovers.

- Assumption held a 36-24 advantage in ground balls and converted 22-of-25 clears, while Merrimack held the slim edge in draw controls at 6-3.
