-The Lead: The Assumption College men's lacrosse team fell to Saint Michael's by a score of 14-7 at home at the Assumption College Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday. Senior Connor Munisteri (Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville), who currently leads the team in assists (16), led the Hounds with two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Hounds scored first when Munisteri found the back of the net with 8:25 on the clock before the teams traded goals for the remainder of the first quarter, 2-2.
-In the second quarter, Saint Michael's took a commanding lead with four straight goals within five minutes for a 6-2 lead. Munisteri scored again with just 12 seconds left before halftime to make it 6-3.
-The Hounds came out in the second half with a goal at 13:18 off the stick of senior Cameron Murphy (Walpole, Mass. / Xaverian) before Saint Michael's rattled off four more to take a 10-5 lead.
-In the fourth quarter, Saint Michael's added four more for the 14-goal final while Assumption's Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton) and Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) scored in the frame to give the Hounds a seven-goal total. Reid's goal came with just 1:02 left in regulation.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Munisteri was the only Hound to score multiple goals on the day, tallying two.
-Murphy, Matisoff, Reid, sophomore Patrick O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y. / St. Dominic) and freshman Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) accounted for the other five goals.
-Saint Michael's held a 37-36 advantage in shots overall and posted just 17 turnovers to Assumption's 19.
-Neither team was able to capitalize on man-up opportunities. The Purple Knights went 0-for-2 while Assumption was 0-for-3.
-Assumption's Nick Guarino (Avon, Conn. / Avon) claimed 16-of-24 faceoffs for a significant advantage.
-Saint Michael's was successful on 20-of-21 clears compared to 15-of-18 for Assumption.
-Freshman Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) take the loss for Assumption, allowing 14 goals in 60 minutes while collecting nine saves. He drops to 1-4 overall on the season.
-Matt Hanley earns the win for the Purple Knights allowing just seven goals in 60 minutes and posting 18 saves.
