- The Lead: The Assumption College women's soccer team suffered its first Northeast-10 defeat of the season on Wednesday night in front of a home crowd as it fell, 4-2, to Bentley University in the Hounds' home opener. Junior Amanda Arnold (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) scored both goals to help lead the Hounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption fell behind midway through the first half as Bentley's Ana Tantum received a pass from Alyssa Valente and slotted the ball past senior goalkeeper Emily Kuzma (East Haven, Conn. / East Haven) for her fifth goal of the season.
- Assumption tallied the equalizer in the 33rd minute when Arnold rifled a cross into the net from sophomore Jessica FitzGerald (Uxbridge, Mass. / Uxbridge). The Falcons regained the lead just five minutes later, as Lauren Bean finished a cross from Tantum.
- The Falcons took a commanding 3-1 lead when Brandi McDonald capitalized on a loose ball in the Hounds' 18' yard box, firing the shot into the net for the eventual game winner. Bentley pushed its lead out of reach in the 52nd minute, when Valente controlled the ball on the top right side of the box and shot the ball past an outstretched Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) to push the visitors lead to 4-1.
- With time on the clock dwindling, the Hounds made repeated attempts to close the gap but were unsuccessful until senior Emily Hill (Dedham, Mass. / Dedham) found Arnold in the box with three minutes left in the game. Hill sent a cross from the right sideline to Arnold who headed the ball into the net, cutting the deficit in half.
