- The Lead: The Assumption College women's soccer team scored in the final minute of regulation to defeat Southern New Hampshire 1-0 today at home in a crucial Northeast-10 Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The was scoreless as Assumption and Southern New Hampshire couldn't break down each other's stingy defense. The Penmen had the best scoring opportunity of the first half, as junior Abigail Maker fired a shot from outside of the box that dinged the cross bar.

- Assumption turned up the pressure in the second half, surging forward as they tried to find a goal. The Hounds outshot the Penmen 10-2 over the final 45 minutes and hit the goal frame twice. Southern New Hampshire was forced to play a person down over the final 26 minutes as a Penmen player was given a red card in the 64th.

- The break through occurred with under a minute to play, when senior Tayla Morais (Taunton, Mass. / Taunton) received a cross from freshman Alexis Stowell (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) and volleyed it into the side netting.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS:

- Morais first goal of the season and second goal of her career lifted the Hounds to their third NE-10 victory of the year.

- Freshman Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) recorded the second shutout of her young career, pushing her record to 2-1. Southern New Hampshire's Autumn Scanlon took the tough loss in net for the Penmen, dropping her record to 3-1-1.

- The Hounds outshot the Penmen 10-7 in the first half and finished the game with a total of 20 shots to Southern New Hampshire's nine.

UP NEXT:

- The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, September 28th, as the squad travels to Stonehill College for a Northeast-10 match-up with a start time of 4 pm. This is the second meeting between the two teams this season, as Stonehill earned a 3-1 victory in the season opener.
