The Lead: Bentley used a potent offense and strong defense to take a 7-0 lead at the half and held on for a 9-4 victory over Assumption on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bentley scored early with a goal at 12:40 in the first quarter. The Falcons added two more for a 3-0 lead over the Hounds through the 1st quarter. Bentley extended its lead to 7-0 with four more goals in the second. Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) made four saves for Hounds through first half.
- In the third quarter the Hounds got on the board with 12:19 left in the quarter on a goal from Brett Jennings (Montgomery, N.Y. / Valley Central High School). Trevor Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) added another goal with 7:16 left in the third quarter. Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton) recorded the final goal with just 3:02 left in the quarter. Bentley added two more goals in the quarter for a 9-3 advantage.
- Jennings recorded the only goal of the fourth quarter with 55 seconds left off an assist from Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) to make the final score 9-4. Hamwey made eight saves to keep the Falcons off the board in the fourth.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption was outshot 42-25 in the contest and Bentley won 13 of 16 faceoffs with 31 ground balls to get its offense in position to score.
- Jenning scored two goals while Kennedy added one goals and three ground balls. Defensively, Nick Crespo (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. John Wheeler led Bentley with three goals, one assist and five ground balls.
- Hamwey took the loss in net, making 16 saves while allowing nine goals. Ben Bath, meanwhile, earned the win as he made eight saves and allowed three goals in 57:02.
