THE BASICS:

The Lead: Assumption led just 5-3 at the half before opening the third quarter with five consecutive goals to pull away for an eventual 12-8 non-conference victory over Post on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Sophomore Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) opened the scoring for the Hounds and though Post tied it 1-1 midway through the quarter, Brett Jennings (Montgomery, N.Y. / Valley Central High School) put Assumption back on top with a goal at 5:30.

- Jennings scored just 1:26 into the second for a 3-1 lead, before the Eagles answered with a goal two minutes later. Farrell and Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) extended the lead to 5-2 with eight minutes left and one more Post goal in the final three minutes made it 5-3 going into the break.

- Jennings extended the lead 6-3 only 73 seconds into the third, and Dan Matisoff (Milton, Mass. / Milton) pushed it to 7-3 just 16 seconds later. Farrell, Reid and Trevor Wilcox (Somers, Mass. / East Catholic High School) stretched the lead to 10-3 with 5:11 left.

- The Eagles did respond with four consecutive goals to close the gap to 10-7 early in the fourth, but two more Jennings goals put the game out of reach as the Hounds held on for the 12-8 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption was actually outshot 32-27 in the contest, but picked up twice as many ground balls (32-16) and dominated in the faceoff circle thanks to Connor Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham), who won 18 of 23 faceoffs with a career-high 14 ground balls.

- Jennings scored a career-high five goals on seven shots while T. Reid added two goals, three assists and six ground balls. Farrell supplied another hat trick while Matisoff came through with one goal and two assists.

- Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy) was an anchor in net, picked up four ground balls while saving 14 shots with just eight goals allowed. Shane Trost was saddled with the loss as he made ten saves with 12 goals allowed.
