THE BASICS:

The Lead: Assumption held a one-goal lead at the half before St. Michael's evened it up in the third quarter, 5-5, however, the Hounds shut out the Purple Knights 3-0 over the final 18 minutes of action to come away with an 8-5 victory on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption opened the scored at 10:56 on an unassisted goal by freshman Brett Jennings (Montgomery, N.Y. / Valley Central High School). Saint Michael's answered with a pair of goals to grab a 2-1 advantage with 3:49 remaining. Jennings evened it up with 1:01 left off a feed from Trevor Kennedy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) and then Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) deposited a goal with only 15 seconds remaining for a 3-2 lead after one.
- Farrell doubled the lead to 4-2 off an assist from Kennedy just 1:10 into the second, but Saint Michael's responded with 11:27 left. Neither team was able to score again in the period for a 3-2 Hound advantage at the midway point.
- Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) gave Assumption a 5-3 lead at 12:13, but the Purple Knights scored twice in the next ten minutes to even the score at five apiece. Farrell again came through in the final minute, scoring with 10 seconds left for a 6-5 lead.
- The fourth was all Hounds, as Kennedy pushed the lead to 7-5 and Reid concluded the scoring with 9:37 left for an 8-5 advantage. Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham Monson Academy), meanwhile, made seven saves in the fourth to keep St. Michael's off the board.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption was outshot 51-22 in the contest, though St. Michael's only had 21 shots on net while 15 of the Hounds' 22 shots were on target. The Purple Knights picked up ten more ground balls (38-28) but were 0-for-4 on the man-up.
- Farrell led the scoring with five points on three goals and two assists while Jennings chipped in two goals and two assists. Reid added two goals, one assist and four ground balls. Jack Drapeau (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) was solid on defense with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
- Hamwey was an anchor in net, recording his second straight game with at least 15 saves as he totaled 16 while allowing just five goals. Jake Sonberg, meanwhile, took the loss as he allowed four goals with three saves in 33:22.
- Assumption has now won four straight games, its longest streak since winning four in 2015. Also Assumption has only allowed more than nine goals once in eight games this season, giving up 14 to No. 3 Adelphi.
