THE BASICS:
- Score: Assumption 2, Bentley 1
- Records: Assumption (4-0, 2-0 NE10); Bentley (3-2, 1-2 NE10)
- Location: Waltham, Mass.
- The Lead: Junior Kallie Villemaire (Plattsburgh, N.Y. / Beekmantown) tallied her eighth and ninth goal of the season on the road, as the Assumption women's soccer team outlasted Bentley 2-1 today, improving their record to a perfect 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- As has been the theme all season, it didn't take long for Villemaire to find the back of the net. The junior put the Hounds ahead at the 6:42 mark of the first half, as she received a pass from senior captain Amanda Arnold (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) inside of the box and placed the ball in the far post of the net.
- Bentley was able to equalize with under five minutes left to play in the first half, when Peyton Kent connected on a well-placed chip shot that went to the far post from just outside of the box.
- Assumption dominated the stats in the first half, out-shooting the Falcons 9-to-4, while also holding a 2-0 advantage on corner kicks.
- Bentley came out firing in the second half, putting pressure on the Hounds back-line before Villemaire collected a pass from sophomore Victoria Stowell (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) and put the Hounds in the lead for good, finishing her chance from 12 yards out to mark her ninth goal of the early season.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
- Sophomore Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) started in net and improved to 4-0 after not having to make a save throughout the 90 minutes.
- Assumption outshot Bentley 13-to-8 and Bentley held a 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.
- Assumption defense has been rock solid, as they rank fourth in the NE10 with a 0.50 goals against average.
QUOTE FROM THE COACH:
"After conceding late in the first half, we came out and we said, hey guys this game is going to be about guts and who has more, so let's go to work. And we did. Ended up getting another goal, poking it in and then hunkered down a little bit, packed it in and played a little more direct. Overall a great team performance." – Head Coach Grace Barnard
