Women's Soccer Scores Late, Ties Franklin Pierce 1-1

Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: Assumption 1, Franklin Pierce 1 (2OT)

- Records: Assumption (5-1-1, 3-1-1 NE10); Franklin Pierce (4-2-2, 3-2-2 NE10)

- Location: Worcester, Mass. (Multi-Sport Stadium)

- The Lead:  Franklin Pierce scored in the 24th minute of the first half and held firm on defense, but Assumption equalized in the 83rd minute to earn a point in the NE10 standings this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Nathalia Maria da Silva and Bruna Tavares connected for a give and go outside of the Hounds box that put da Silva on a one-on-one with sophomore keeper Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy), as she calmly slipped it past her into the lower right side of the net.

- In the 83rd minute, sophomore Victoria Stowell (Franklin, Mass. / Franklin) sent a corner kick into the box that curled towards the near post. Franklin Pierce goalie Casey Cook tried to make a play on it but it went off of her hands and into the net to tie the score at one goal apiece.

- The teams went back and forth in the overtime periods, as Franklin Pierce held a slight 5-4 advantage on shots. Nason made a terrific save to keep the score level at one, when Caitlin Ryan fired a shot from 25 yards out that was dipping under the crossbar, forcing Nason to make a leaping save. Assumption also had a few chances in the two overtime sessions but couldn't capitalize.

BEHIND THE NUMBERS:

- V. Stowell recorded her first collegiate goal at a great time, saving the Hounds from a tough loss.

- Assumption held a 12-10 advantage on shots in the contest, but Franklin Pierce registered four corners to the Hounds 3.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH:

"Today was a good battle, Franklin Pierce is a tough team with a lot of very good players. Being down one late in the half we knew that we were going to have to do some different things with our formation and shift some people around. We were able to get one back and had some decent chances to end the game. Overall a good team performance and we are happy with the group." – Head Coach Grace Barnard
