The Lead:
-The Owls scored three unanswered goals in the second-half to defeat the Hounds 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds went up 2-0 by halftime. Jessica FitzGerald (Uxbrige, Mass. / Uxbridge) put the Hounds up 1-0 on a header at the 3:53 mark that came off of a corner kick. Johnna Caporuscio (Wayne N.J. / Wayne Hills) put the Hounds up 2-0 at the 14:30 mark when she found the top right corner of the net from 18 yards out.
-The Owls then scored three unanswered goals in the second-half. Johana Whalen scored at the 50:16 mark to pull within 2-1. Greta Brunello tied the game at two at the 69:07 mark and Meghan Kelley put the Owls up 3-2 at the 78:06 mark on a ball headed from the left side of the field.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Southern Connecticut St. held an 18-13 advantage in shots. They also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
-FitzGerald scored her third goal of the season and second in as many games. She has three goals and four assists on the year.
-Caporuscio scored her second goal of the season. She scored one goal against LIU Post.
-Assumption goalie Alexis Nason (Saco, Maine / Thornton Academy) made seven saves but fell to 3-4-0 on the year. Southern Connecticut St. goalie Abigail Allen made six saves and improved to 4-3-0.
QUOTE FROM THE COACH:
"That was a tough one to swallow," said Assumption head coach Grace Barnard. "Southern Connecticut St. came out and worked their tails off in that second half and we let them do that. At the end of the day, we have to come out and know that we are the hardest working team, and today wasn't that day. I believe in our group and we have the tools to perform well, now we just have to want it."
