-The Lead: The Assumption College men's lacrosse team downed the Eagles of Post University in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday night at the Multi-Sport Stadium. Ten different Hounds tallied goals in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Assumption opened up scoring just under a minute into play with an unassisted tally by senior Spencer Marocchini (Somers, Conn. / Wilbraham & Monson). The Eagles responded at the 11:13 mark when freshman Nick Meier found his classmate Brendan Kelleher to tie the game at 1-1.
-The Hounds outscored Post 5-1 over seven minutes to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Marochinni netted two goals while junior Nicholas Shanley (Milford, Conn. / Notre Dame of West Haven) added one goal and two assists.
-Assumption and Southern Connecticut put up two goals each in the second quarter. Senior Brett Jennings (Montgomery, N.Y. / Valley Central) dished the ball to Shanley at the 11:48 mark to put Assumption up 7-2 and Marocchini found senior Owen Peterson III (Westchester, N.Y. / Westlake High School) a minute later for the 8-2 go-ahead. Post used goals from senior Jake Bova and junior Justin Nogueria to close the gap to 8-4 heading into the halftime break.
-The Hounds outscored Post 9-5 in the final two quarters to take home the 17-9 final victory. Jennings put in two goals and Shanley finished with another goal and an assist over the final two quarters.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Assumption saw 10 different players score goals in the victory. Shanley finished with three goals and three assists while Jennings put in three goals and dished out two assists. Junior Anthony D'Angelo (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton) also finished the night with three goals for the Hounds. Juniors Aidan Tefft (Franklin, Mass. / Xaverian Brothers) and Tyler Grant (Londonderry, N.H. / Brewster Academy) picked up six and five ground balls respectively.
-Meier led the Eagles with two goals and one assist while Nogueria also finished the night with two goals for the visitors.
-Assumption outshot Post 47-27. The Hounds won 18 of 30 face-offs with Grant going 10-for-19 and freshman Michael Kolesnik (Old Lyme, Conn. / Old Lyme) going 8-for-11.
-The Hounds picked up 33 ground balls while Post grabbed 22. Assumption went 11-for-14 on clear attempts while the Eagles went 8-for-10.
-First year Jace Heibel (Albertville, Minn. / St. Michael-Albertville) made 10 saves in net for Assumption and improves to 2-0 on the season.
-Senior Manuele D'Alessio made 14 saves in the setback and falls to 0-4 this season.
