-The Lead: The Assumption University Women's soccer team continued their 2021 season on Saturday evening in a NE10 conference matchup No. 7 nationally ranked SNHU. The visitors started the scoring early but Assumption kept the pressure on all evening but just couldn't find the back of the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Penmen opened the scoring just five minutes into the game when Alyssa Anderson took a pass on the left side from the midfield and cut towards the middle with speed and put a shot past the goalie to give the visitors the lead.
-Assumptions best chance in the first half came with six minutes left and the Hounds won a freekick just at the top of the 18 yard box. Senior Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass. / Natick) stepped up and drove the ball on net and hit the crossbar.
-SNHU scored their second of the night in the 56th minute when Allison Beaumont received a pass near the 18 yard box and fired a shot to the far right corner to seal the 2-0 victory for the Penmen.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Hounds outshot the Penmen on the evening with nine total shots (two on goal), while SNHU took eight shots (six on goal).
-Julia Walsh made four saves on the night for Assumption while Hannah Rose made two for SNHU.
-Assumption took three corner kicks while SNHU took two.
