Hounds Suffer Setback at Saint Anselm

-The Lead: The Assumption University men's lacrosse team suffered a setback to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks held the Hounds to eight shots on goal on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Hawks held Assumption scoreless through the first two quarters. They collected six goals in the first and seven goals in the second to take a 13-0 lead into the halftime break.

-Sophomore Callen Willwerth and senior Matt Ward led saint Anselm through the first half with three goals each.

-The Hawks opened the third quarter with three more goals before Assumption hopped on the board with a tally by sophomore Nolan Sheehan (Potomac, Md. / The Heights). Senior Adam Becker (Waltham, Mass. / Waltham) caused a turnover by the Hawks to give the Hounds possession and first year Ryan Healey (Westwood, Mass. / Bridgton Academy) found Sheehan open for the score.

-Assumption's second goal came at the 9:49 mark in the final stanza. First year Brady McNulty (Tolland, Conn. / Tolland) helped himself to an unassisted tally.

-Sophomore Jack Andrews led the Hawks in the second half with three goals.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Ward led Saint Anselm on offense with four goals on the day. Andrews put up three goals and an assist and Willwerth added three goals in the victory.

-First year Colin Malone (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Saint John the Baptist DHS)  falls to 0-3 in net for the Hounds. He made 10 saves in 42:41 of play.

-Senior CJ Hart improves to 6-0 for Saint Anselm, making two saves in the win.

-The Hawks outshot Assumption 65 (39 on goal) to 22 (eight on goal) and won 21-of-26 faceoffs.

-Saint Anselm picked up 46 ground balls while Assumption scooped up 21.
