-The Lead: The Assumption University men's lacrosse team fell to the Falcons of Bentley University on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons used a 6-0 run in the first period to lift them to the final 19-6 conference victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Falcons went on a 6-0 run in the first quarter to secure an early lead over the Greyhounds. Senior Kristopher Campbell led Bentley with two goals in the first 15 minutes.
-The hosts added another goal at the start of the second period as junior Ben Baldasaro dished the ball to senior Dominick Cioffi for the 7-0 lead. Assumption put their first goal on the board with 9:07 on the clock in the second period, scored by senior Anthony D'Angelo (Grafton, Mass. / Grafton). Just one minute later first year Jackson Bulger (West Simsbury, Conn. / Simsbury) netted one for the Hounds to bring them within five (7-2). Bentley used three goals over the next four minutes to pull ahead 10-2 with 3:11 to go in the first half. First year Ryan Bogar (Medfield, Mass. / Thayer Academy) netted one for the Hounds before the buzzer and Bentley took the seven-point advantage into the halftime break.
-Bentley outscored the Hounds 8-2 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 18-5 heading into the final stanza. Senior Adam Becker (Waltham, Mass. / Waltham) and first year CJ Wiper (Sandwich, Mass. / Sandwich) scored the two goals for Assumption back-to-back at the 7:11 mark and 5:21 mark respectively. Campbell, graduate student Joey Tesoriero, and first year Nicholas Thorn-Guillaro netted two goals each for Bentley in the third.
-The final quarter saw just two goals, one from each team. Senior Anthony Rausa (Littleton, Mass. / Littleton) assisted on a tally by first year Ryan Healey (Westwood, Mass. / Bridgton Academy) at the 7:53 mark. Just over a minute later Thorn-Guillaro scored his third goal and the final goal of the game as Bentley took home the 19-6 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Campbell led Bentley on offense with four goals and four assists. Thorn-Guillaro added three goals.
-First year Colin Malone (East Patchogue, N.Y. / Saint John the Baptist DHS) falls to 0-2 on the season as he made 15 saves in net for the Hounds.
-Junior Keaton Roarick improves to 1-2 and made six saves for Bentley.
-Bentley outshot Assumption 50-26.
-The Hounds won 11-of-26 faceoffs.
-The Falcons picked up 32 ground balls and Assumption picked up 30.
