-The Lead: The Assumption University Women's soccer team continued their 2021 season and battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie with Bentley. The game was a back-and-forth battle with both teams registering double digit shots, keeping both goalies busy.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Assumption had a good chance in the 15th minute of play when Annie Irwin (Norwood, Mass./Montrose School), rushed down the ride side and crossed a ball to the top of the 18 for freshman Amaia Astiasaran (Glastonbury, Conn.) who took a shot on the volley and just missed a goal when she rang the post.
- With five minutes left in the game the Hounds won a freekick in the Bentley half, Addison Davis (Bristol, Conn./Saint Paul Catholic High School) stepped up to take it and almost gave the Hounds the lead but hit the crossbar.
-In the 5th minute of overtime Julia Walsh (San Diego, Calif.) made a fingertip save to keep the game tied and made another huge save from the following corner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Assumption registered 24 shots (13 on target) while Bentley registered 16 shots (11 on target)
-Walsh was strong in net all night making 11 saves while Kat Haspiss made 13 saves and freshman Claire Ewen made three for Bentley.
-Bentley won six corner kicks while the Hounds won two.
UP NEXT
The Hounds travel to Manchester, N.H. on Saturday, October 2, to face off with Saint Anselm in an NE10 conference matchup at 3:00pm.
