Box Score WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team was downed by undefeated and No. 3 Adelphi by a 14-5 decision at Brian Kelly Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Adelphi, which had 10 different players find the back of the net, scored four quick goals in a span of 2:49 and led from wire to wire. Jason Rebaudo set up three of the markers to put the Panthers in early control.
The Greyhounds scored once in the first quarter and once in the second, but a 7-0 run by the visitors between the second and third frames allowed Adelphi to pull away.
Assumption outscored and blanked the Panthers in the fourth quarter by having freshman Collin McSparren (Warwick, R.I.), sophomore Sam Maciel (Narragansett, R.I.), and classmate Brady McNulty (Tolland, Conn.) find the back of the net. However, the 11-goal deficit in the second half was just too much to overcome.
Joseph Duchnowski and Rebaudo paced a balanced attack for Adelphi (7-0, NE10 5-0), which outshot the Greyhounds 43-32, won the ground ball battle by a 37-27 margin, and captured 15 of the 23 faceoffs. Duchnowski netted a hat trick and added an assist, while Rebaudo finished with two goals and four helpers. Brian Hoerter won 13 faceoffs and picked up nine ground balls, and goalie Dylan Renner earned the win by making three saves in 45 minutes of action.
Sophomore Jack Galvin (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and junior Nolan Sheehan (Potomac, Md.) put forth notable efforts for Assumption in the loss. Galvin finished with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, and Sheehan tallied a goal and an assist.
Assumption (2-5, NE10 1-3) will look to get back on track when it next hosts Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
