Men's Lacrosse Drops Seesaw Battle To No. 2 Le Moyne

Box Score

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In a competitive game which featured seven ties and three lead changes, the Assumption University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 2 Le Moyne by an 11-7 score on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds were ahead 7-6 in the final quarter before the Dolphins netted five unanswered to pull away late.

The game started off as a seesaw affair. There were four ties and three lead changes in the first half, and neither side led by more than a goal. With the team playing a man up, sophomore Jackson Bulger (West Simsbury, Conn.) gave the Greyhounds their first lead at 2-1 by finding the back of the net with 6:23 remaining before the Dolphins responded with two straight to take a slim 3-2 advantage through the first quarter of play.

Assumption got back-to-back goals from Bulger and sophomore Ryan Healey (Westwood Mass.) to regain the lead in the second, and a Dolphin marker by Kyle Caves, which was set up by Carter Collins with 1:06 on the clock, sent the teams into the break deadlocked at 4-4.

The teams continued to trade goals in the third quarter with Assumption keeping the upper hand. But after sophomore CJ Wiper (Sandwich, Mass.) gave the Greyhounds a 7-6 edge with 13:50 remaining in the fourth, Le Moyne started to control possession and caught fire offensively down the stretch by netting five goals in a row to end the game.

Zach Pierce gave Le Moyne (9-1, NE10 5-0) its first lead since the opening quarter at 8-7 by finishing a Kevin Sheehan pass from behind the net with 11:18 left. The Dolphins then netted three more goals in a span of 3:47 to come away with the victory and remain unbeaten in conference play.

Pierce scored a game-high four goals for Le Moyne, which outshot the Greyhounds 48-39 overall, won 17 of the 22 faceoffs, and had a 27-11 advantage in ground balls. Carter Collins tallied three assists, and Sam Kury picked up 10 ground balls by also notably winning all 17 of the team's faceoffs. Goalie Frank Delia stopped 10 shots to earn the win.

Bulger and Healey each recorded a hat trick to lead the way for Assumption. Sophomore Teddy Willett (Norwood, Mass.) had three ground balls and a caused turnover, and classmate Colin Malone finished with 15 saves between the posts.

Assumption (2-7, NE10 1-5) will remain on the road to next play No. 10 Pace on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
