Jay Kastantin and Sacred Heart University sophomore quarterback
Jack Snyder are this week's recipients of the New England Football Association Gold Helmet Awards presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.
Kastantin, from Needham, Mass., and a graduate of East Coast Prep High School, accounted for 355 yards of total offense (241 passing, 114 rushing) as the Greyhounds posted a 28-26 road triumph at Franklin Pierce. He completed 18-of-28 pass attempts and threw for a trio of touchdowns (4, 13, 80) while directing Assumption on a game-winning field goal drive in the final minute of play.
Snyder, a native of Canton, Ohio, and a graduate of Canton South High School, amassed 330 yards of total offense and accounted for three touchdowns in the Pioneers' 35-31 victory over Delaware State. He completed 28-of-36 pass attempts for 298 yards and two scores (41, 6) and added a 15-yard touchdown run as Sacred Heart rallied from an 11-point third-quarter deficit.
For the eleventh straight year, the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation is the presenting sponsor for both the weekly and end-of-year Gold Helmet Awards presented to student-athletes from FBS, FCS, Division II, and Division III institutions throughout New England. The awards will be presented at the NEFW Captains and Awards Banquet on December 11, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center.
