AMHERST, N.Y.—Rachael Geniuch scored, and Kaylin Herbert picked up the clean sheet, as the Assumption University women's soccer team shut out Daemen University in their 2025 season opener, Friday evening at Royal Park. 

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 1, Daemen University 0
Records: Greyhounds (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NE10), Wildcats (0-1-0, 0-0-0 ECC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half was evenly matched, as both sides fired double-digit shots (14-12, Assumption). It was Rachael Geniuch who got the scoring started for the Greyhounds. Haley Brown slipped Geniuch a slip pass right outside the top of the box, before curling one into the top left corner of the cage in the 19^th minute. Neither team would generate much offense for the remainder of the first half, as both sides recorded four saves, but it was Assumption with both corner kicks in the opening 45. 
 
The Greyhounds upped the offensive pressure in the second half, as they fired 20 shots in the second half, with nine of them going on target. The Wildcats' defense stood firm and weathered the attack, and neither team would add to the score. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Kaylin Hebert recorded her first collegiate shutout, as she logged six saves for the Hounds. 
• Assumption outshot Daemen 34-19, while also maintaining a 7-4 edge in corners. 
• The Hounds now lead the all-time series 3-0-1.
