WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption University senior softball student-athlete,
Maddy Bland, earned All-American status, as she was named to the third team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), on Wednesday afternoon.
She stole 37 bases while hitting over .400 and slugging over .700. Bland belted 32 extra-base hits, headlined by the home run that walked off the Northeast 10 Conference Championship against Southern New Hampshire. Bland has excelled in Worcester after transferring in from fellow NE10 program Saint Rose. Bland is the fifth All-American in Greyhounds history and the first since Julie Phipps (1st team) and Stephanie Martin (3rd team) in 2000.
The softball team had one of its best seasons in program history, as it won the Northeast 10 Conference Championship as the No. 4 seed before winning the team's first East Regional Championship at Franklin Pierce University, before falling in the Super Regional at St. Thomas Aquinas.
