THE BASICS:

- The Lead: The Assumption College women's track & field team broke two school records on Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Both the distance medley relay and the 4x400 meter relay smashed their respective records in a strong day for the Hounds. Assumption also competed at the Gordon Kelly Invitational today where there were a number of strong performances.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The David Hemery Valentine Invitational
- The 4x400 meter relay team broke the first record of the day for Assumption, as the team of freshman Madeleine Iassogna (Marietta, GA / Blessed Trinity Catholic), sophomore Abby Jones (Arlington, Mass. / Arlington), freshman Emily Roxo (Uxbridge, Mass. / Uxbridge) and sophomore Greta Scott (Little Compton, R.I. / Portsmouth) smashed the school record by over nine seconds, finishing with a time of 4:01.64 to place 27th overall.
- The distance medley relay followed suit, as freshman Kialeigh Marston (Standish, Maine / Bonny Eagle), Iassogna, sophomore Meghan Slinskey (Fishkill, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes) and junior Antonia Pagliuca (Peabody, Mass. / Peabody Veteran's Memorial) ran to a time of 12:35.48, breaking the previous school record of 12:46.02 to finish in 20th place.
- In the 1000 meter run, both Marston and Slinskey ran to personal records, finishing in 28th and 31st place while clocking in with times of 3:02.89 and 3:03.36, respectively.
- Jones placed 21st in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 1-inch, while also finishing in 70th place in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10 seconds flat.
- Senior Joy Lima (Salem, Mass. / Salem) competed in both the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. In the 60 meter dash, Lima placed 47th with a time of 8.22 seconds, while in the 200 meter dash Lima finished in 26.68 seconds, good for a 95th place finish.
- Freshman Alicia Polak (Lowell, Mass. / Lowell) placed 108th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.81, while sophomore Sara Amato (North Attleboro, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) competed in the one mile run and placed 139th with a time of 5:21.60.
- Junior Courtney Fisher (Peterborough, N.H. / Contoocook Valley Regional) ran to a time of 10:29.37 in the 3000 meter run, placing her in 116th.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Gordon Kelly Invitational
- Senior Gwen Sawyer (North Yarmouth, Maine / Greely) won the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, while freshman Emily Casella (Athol, Mass. / Athol) also recorded a top ten finish, placing sixth with a distance of 39 feet. Sawyer also competed in the weight throw and finished in tenth place, registering a distance of 42 feet, 2.5-inches.
In the 3000 meter run, junior Megan Corbeil (North Smithfield, R.I. / Mount Saint Charles Academy) placed second overall with a time of 11:05.58, while junior Michaela Flaherty (Norwell, Mass. / Norwell) finished tenth in the 5000 meter run, clocking in at 22:29.66.
- Freshman Bryanna Peters (Ayer, Mass. / Ayer-Shirley Regional) had a strong day for the Hounds, as she placed seventh in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.40 seconds, while also finishing in fourth in the 200 meter dash in 27.59 seconds. Classmate Olivia DeMonico (North Reading, Mass. / North Reading, MA) also competed in the 200 meter dash and raced to a time of 29.04 seconds. DeMonico also competed in the 60 meter hurdles, placing 14th with a time of 10.27 seconds.
- In the 400 meter dash, freshman Caroline Leonard (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin Regional) placed fifth overall with a time of 1:05.68. Classmate Madison Soullier (Cumberland / Cumberland, R.I) finished in 11th place in the 60 meter hurdles, placing 11th with a time of 10.05 seconds.
- In the 800 meter run, freshman Mary Kate O'Shaughnessy (Middleboro, Mass. / Middleboro) recorded a top ten finish, placing ninth with a time of 2:44.63.
- Sophomore Sarah Miller (Hanover, Mass. / Hanover) leaped her way to a fifth place finish in the long jump, clearing distance of 16 feet, 3.5-inches. Freshman Therese Rembetsy-Brown (Westminster, Mass. / Oakmont Regional) placed ninth with a distance of 15 feet, 6-inches.Rembetsy-Brown also competed in the high jump and placed seventh with a height of 4 feet, 8.5-inches.
