Worcester, Mass. -- After honoring their graduating senior class in a pregame ceremony, the Assumption College woman's lacrosse team had to take on one of the toughest opponents in the country, losing to Stonehill College 19-8 Tuesday night at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
For the Skyhawks, junior attacker Sam Lynott (Holbrook, N.Y./East Sachem) was dominant with five goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Sarah Galligan (West Newbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) also had five goals.
After falling behind 11-3 at halftime, the Greyhounds attempted a comeback in the second half, playing even with the Skyhawks for most of the period before Stonehill again showed the talent one would expect from the fifth-ranked team in the country.
Sophomore midfielder Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H./Southegan) led Assumption with three goals, while senior midfielder Erin Theriault (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) added two, placing her seventh all time in Greyhound history. Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) had a career high 15 saves.
In the final home game of their careers, seniors Jamie Marrone (Bethany, Conn./Amity) and Sarah Roos (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) both tied the school record for consecutive games played. Roos had a goal and three draw controls for the Greyhounds.
Stonehill is now 14-2 with 10-1 record in the Northeast-10 while Assumption falls 6-8 with a 4-7 conference record. The Greyhounds will wrap up their season this Saturday at Franklin Pierce.
