Waltham, Mass. (April 9) -- Assumption junior pitcher Chelsea Durso (Salem, N.H./Salem) fired her second no-hitter in a week in a 9-0 game one win as the Greyhounds earned a road sweep of Bentley on Saturday afternoon. The Hounds took the second game by a 7-1 final for their first Northeast-10 Conference sweep of the season.
In game one, every Greyhound hitter reached base at least once as the Greyhounds piled up 12 hits in just five innings. Assumption struck first in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs for the 2-0 edge. Freshman Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central) singled up the middle with one out and came home on a Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) triple to right field. Senior Marissa Palumbo (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) drove in Jalbert with two outs on a single thru the left side for the second run. After an RBI double to right center by Bernadette Fuentes (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) in the fourth made it a 3-0 Greyhounds, the visitors put the game out of reach with six-run top of the fifth. In that inning, the Greyhounds had five hits and took advantage of three Bentley errors. Highlighting the inning was a two-RBI double to right center by Ashley Bilodeau (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic). Robidoux also posted her second double of the game in the inning to drive in a run.
Durso improved to 7-3 overall with her second no-hitter in her last three appearances, while Tara Fogarty falls to 8-5 for the Falcons with the defeat.
In the second game, sophomore Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) led the Greyhound offense with a pair of hits and two RBI, along with two walks. Assumption built a 2-1 lead after three innings and added to it in the fourth with a pair of runs on an RBI up the middle by Medeiros and a steal of home by Jalbert. Freshman Nicole Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) completed the scoring with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh for the 7-1 final.
Junior pitcher Casey Halajian (Quincy, Mass./Archbishop Williams) improved to 2-0 for the Greyhounds in a complete-game, four-hit, eight-strikeout performance. Lindsey Theriault took the loss for Bentley, falling to 1-2 on the season.
With the sweep, Assumption improves to 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the Northeast-10, while Bentley falls to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the league. The Greyhounds are back in action on Sunday afternoon as the team travels to Stonehill for a league doubleheader.
