Worcester, Mass. - Game 3 of the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Softball Tournament saw the
host Greyhounds of Assumption College fall short against the Chargers of the University of New Haven, losing 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Marois Field.

The game started well for the Greyhounds, as they took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when junior shortstop Marissa Palumbo (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) hit a two-RBI single to left-center field. But in the top of the fifth inning, down 2-1, New Haven would answer. After loading the bases with two outs, freshman catcher Brooke Fisher (Erial, N.J./Camden Catholic) hit a grand slam home run to left field to put the Chargers up 5-2.

Junior pitcher Micah Stonesifer (Wichita Falls, Texas / Archer City / Vernon College) gave up only two runs for New Haven, with four strikeouts. Assumption junior Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) took the loss to fall to 13-8 on the season.

New Haven (34-15) will now face the winner of Game 4 in the 1:00 p.m. game tomorrow. Assumption (27-17) will play Adelphi tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
