Worcester, Mass. (September 10) -- The consolation game of the 2011 Worcester City Volleyball Tournament saw the Greyhounds of Assumption College defeat the Lancers of Worcester State, 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-17).

Assumption was led by Ann Donahue (Braintree, Mass./Braintree), who had 12 kills and an impressive .647 hitting percentage. Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) had eight kills, three service aces and five total blocks. Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) had 30 assists and five kills.

The Hounds landed in the consolation game after WPI Rallied to defeat the Hounds, 3-2 (25-21, 19-25, 15-25, 25-15, 15-10) in the opening game of the tournament.

For Assumption, Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) came up strong with 19 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) had 13 kills.

The Hounds move to 4-3 on the season after the tournament.

The Hounds take the court again on Tuesday Sept. 13 at Bentley at 7 p.m.
