Box Score Worcester, Mass. (September 11) – The Assumption women's soccer team played Saint Anselm to a tie, 1-1, after double overtime on Sunday.
After a scoreless first half, the Hounds struck first in the second half, with a goal in the 51st minute by Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I./East Providence). Junior Molly Kessler (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) assisted the goal, her third of the season.
Saint Anselm answered back in the 89th minute, on an unassisted goal by Amy Millet to tie the score, and after 20 minutes of scoreless overtime play, the game resulted in a tie.
The Hounds held the advantage in shots on goal, seven to five, but could only produce the one goal.
Assumption head coach Glenn Melia (Air Force Academy '89) maintained optimism, despite giving up the late lead.
"I think we play a great brand of soccer," Melia said. "Our ball possession game is strong, we just need to find a way to finish."
Assumption moved to 2-1-1 overall with a 0-1-1 record in the Northeast-10, while Saint Anselm moved to 0-2-1, with a 0-1-1 record within the conference.
The Hounds hit the field next at Saint Rose on September 17 at 1 p.m.
