Box Score Manchester, N.H. (October 20) -- The Assumption College women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 final to Saint Anselm College on Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds dropped an exciting game that featured four goals in the final 20 minutes of play, as the Hawks pulled away late, including a hat trick by Saint Anselm senior Kaitlin Oldfield.
The Hawks started the scoring with a goal at the 20:10 mark in the first half off a rebound, but Assumption evened the score as Justine DiDonato (Eastchester, N.Y. / Eastchester) scored on a breakaway up the middle. DiDonato got around the Saint Anselm goalkeeper and put the ball in on the right side of the net. The game went into halftime tied at one.
The Hawks broke the tie two minutes into the second half, and extended that lead to two in the 71st minute on Oldfield's first goal.
Assumption cut into that lead as Lindsey Miller (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) scored her first career goal in the 73rd minute off an assist by senior Molly Kessler (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton). The assist gives Kessler eight on the season, tied for seventh in a single-season in school history.
Oldfield added two more goals for the hat trick, giving her 10 on the season, as Saint Anselm improves to 5-7-4 on the season, including a 4-6-4 record in Northeast-10 Conference play. With the loss, Assumption falls to 3-10-3 overall with a 3-8-3 record in league play.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Southern Conn. State University. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m. in New Haven, Conn.
