(March 2) -- Dominican's Julie Plante launched a solo home run to center on the third pitch of the game for the game's only offense as Assumption fell to the Chargers by a 1-0 final on day one of the NTC Spring Games in Florida. The Hounds are coming off a 27-18 record and the Northeast-10 regular-season title a year ago, while Dominican is the preseason favorite in the CACC Coaches Poll.
Sophomore outfielder Nikki Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) picked up the lone hit for the Hounds in the defeat.
Senior pitcher Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) took the loss for the Hounds to fall to 0-1 overall. Over seven innings, Lowrey scattered just three hits with one earned run and 12 strikeouts. For Dominican, starter Delaney Childers went the distance and gave up one hit with 12 strikeouts in the shutout victory.
The Hounds drop to 0-1 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 2-3 overall.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, March 3rd as the Hounds take on Cedarville University at 9 a.m., followed by a game vs. West Virginia Wesleyan at 11 a.m. The Cedarville game will take place on Field 3, along with the West Virginia Wesleyan game on Field 5.
