Box Score 2 Syracuse, N.Y. (March 24) -- After falling by a 1-0 final in eight innings in game one, the Hounds earned a split at Le Moyne with a 2-0 shutout victory in game two on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 play. The Hounds are now 9-8 overall and 2-2 in Northeast-10 play.
In game one, the Hounds were led by a 14-strikeout performance from senior pitcher Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet), who scattered six hits while allowing just one unearned run. That unearned run came in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of an Assumption error to push Kelcie Cashel across for the 1-0 win. Lowrey falls to 3-4 on the season, while Nikki Boris (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) and Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) each had two hits in the game. Sarah Harrison picked up the win in relief to improve to 5-10 overall.
In game two, the Hounds posted another solid pitching performance as sophomore Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) improve to 4-1 on the season with a three-hit, five-strikeout shutout win. Brenna Klein took the loss for the Dolphins, falling to 0-3 overall.
The Hounds put a single run across in both the third and fourth innings for the win. Freshman Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) drove in Medeiros in the third with an RBI double to center, along with an RBI double to right by junior Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) that scored Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central) for the 2-0 lead.
Boris again posted two hits, finishing with four on the day.
Assumption returns to action on Sunday afternoon, taking on Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. in a Northeast-10 doubleheader.
