Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. (March 4) -- On day three of the NTC Spring Games, Assumption dropped a 4-1 final to No. 24 ranked Grand Valley State in game one, followed by a 1-0 setback to Wilimington in the nightcap. With the pair of losses, Assumption now sits at 2-3 overall on the season.
In game one, the Lakers scored in the first and added to that margin with single runs in the third, sixth and seventh. Assumption got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as freshman Katherine Mosca (Middletown, Conn./Middletown) pinch ran for Caitlin Clary (Belmont, N.H./Belmont) and scored on an RBI hit from sophomore Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central).
Freshman Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) led the offense with a 2-for-3 game, while Nellie Kosola was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Miranda Cleary was 1-for-3 with three RBI for the Lakers.
Grand Valley starter Andrea Nicholson kept the Assumption offense relatively quiet, allowing just one unearned run on four hits with three strikeouts. Assumption senior starter Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) fell to 1-2 on the season as she gave up four runs, all earned, while striking out five and allowing nine hits.
In the late game, senior pitcher Chelsea Durso (Salem, N.H./Salem) made her first start of the season, giving up just one unearned run over six innings of work. The Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but the Hounds were able to get out of the jam.
In the top of the fifth, it was the Hounds who got the bases loaded with no outs, but they were also unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity. Wilmington did eventually get on the board though as the Wildcats scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth as Kristin Garvin came home for the 1-0 lead. Wilmington starting pitcher Katie Warrington kept the Assumption offense quiet over the remaining two innings as she scattered nine hits over seven innings with five strikeouts and zero walks in the shutout victory.
The Hounds, who left 10 runners on base in the game, had 2-for-4 performances from Robidoux, junior Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) and freshman Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy).
Durso fell to 0-1 on the season after giving up two hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Assumption is back in action on Monday, March 5th as the Hounds take on Northern State at 1 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. clash with regional foe Georgian Court University.
