Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. (March 7) -- Assumption got back in the win column on day five of the NTC Spring Games as the Hounds swept a doubleheader from regional foe Post University on Wednesday afternoon. Assumption took game one by an 11-5 margin, followed by a 1-0 shutout win in game two.
In game one, the Hounds put together their strongest offensive showing of the season to this point in an 11-5 victory that snapped a four-game losing streak. The Hounds jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and built to a 6-2 advantage late. Assumption closed out the game strong though, including a solo home run in the seventh by junior Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk), to come away with the win. Medeiros finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and the solo homer, along with a 2-for-5 outing with three runs scored and one RBI from sophomore Tanya Robidoux (Hooksett, N.H./Manchester Central). Freshman Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) put up her best game of the spring, going 4-for-5 with one run scored. Senior Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) went the distance, giving up five runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts as she improved to 2-2 on the season.
In the second game, the Hounds got all the offense they needed in the second inning for the 1-0 final. Medeiros led off the inning with a triple and came home on a sacrifice fly to center from DiPilato for the game's lone scoring. Medeiros finished the game 2-for-3 and had four hits on the day. Senior Chelsea Durso (Salem, N.H./Salem) went the distance for the Hounds and improves to 1-1 on the season. Over seven innings, Durso scattered seven hits while striking out three and walking one.
The Hounds now improve to 4-5 overall, while Post drops to 1-7 on the season.
Assumption returns to action on Thursday morning as the Hounds take on St. Joseph's (Ind.) at 9 a.m. on Field 3, followed by an 11 a.m. contest with West Virginia Wesleyan on Field 4. The Hounds defeated West Virginia Wesleyan earlier in the week by a 6-2 final.
