Box Score 2 Clermont, Fla. (March 8) -- In a pair of 1-0 games on Thursday morning, the Assumption softball team earned a split with St. Joseph's (Ind.) and West Virginia Wesleyan at the NTC Spring Games in Florida. With the split, the Hounds are now 5-6 with one day remaining on their spring trip.
In game one, senior pitcher Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) kept the Pumas off the board until the top of the seventh inning when Shawn Hoskins scored to give St. Joseph's a 1-0 lead. Hoskins was on second and scored on an Assumption fielding error with one out for the unearned run. In the bottom of the inning, the Hounds had a runner on third with one out as Assumption tried to rally. Freshman Ashley Impagliazzo (Glocester, R.I./LaSalle Academy) was picked off of third though to end the game as the Hounds fell to the Pumas by the 1-0 final. Lowrey went the distance for the Hounds, giving up one run on five hits with two strikeouts as she falls to 2-3 on the season.
Megan Ramey picked up the win for the Pumas, going seven innings and giving up just four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Offensively for Assumption, Impagliazzo was 2-for-3 with a single and a triple. Melissa Jalbert (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) added a double, along with 1-for-2 showing with a walk by Andrea Crowley (Norfolk, Mass./Ursuline Academy).
In game two, the game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when junior Lauren Medeiros (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk) drove in Jalbert from first base with an RBI double to put the Hounds in front by a 1-0 margin. Sophomore pitcher Jenn Lattal (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) went the distance for Assumption in the win as she now sits at 2-1 overall thru three starts. Over seven innings, Lattal scattered six hits with one strikeout and no walks. Jacqui Ominchinski took the loss for the Bobcats as she gave up six hits over six innings with six strikeouts, one walk and one earned run.
Medeiros led the offense with a 2-for-3 game, while Impagliazzo, Jalbert, Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) and senior Marissa Palumbo (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) each added one hit.
Assumption is back in action on Friday, March 9 as the Hounds take on Nyack for a doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m. on Field 4.
